Except we all know that doesn’t work: And the final insult is if you try to go to your account to “change” your password, and it tells you the most unhelpful thing: How do you change your password on a machine that you are connected to through 2, 3, 4, or more levels of RDP indirection. It will launch the Windows Security Options screen to change the password. I believe German keyboards in particuar have this key.

In contrast to changing a password, resetting a password does not require you to remember the current password. Instead you just overwrite the existing password if any and set a new password. When logged on to a computer that has active directory tools installed, you may use Active Directory Users and Computers to reset the password.

You need user account privileges to do so, however. To do so:. We also updated the default icon for published desktops, and worked around an issue that was causing smart card redirection to fail against recently patched versions of Windows.

Finally, we made some updates to improve compatibility and performance metrics when connecting to Azure Virtual Desktop formerly known as Windows Virtual Desktop. Thanks to everyone who reported bugs and worked with us to diagnose and fix issues. I used it often, using both Active Directory logins and local logins. Did mass software installs on multiple machines simultaneously all remotely from the app.

This one I feel like runs even faster and smoother than the last one! Great job, devs. I also can see on here that the devs are responding to many of the often unbelievably whiny and uppity complaints on this review page, often proving the customer wrong or letting them know that their desired feature is forthcoming.

Thank you for your dedication, dev team. I feel these guys deserve a 5-star review. I have a specific usage case – I work in a multiplatform environment in which I work on the Mac and on the PC. I don’t want to keep changing physical keyboards, so despite the fact that the two physical machines are next to eachother beneath my desk, I use remote desktop to view and operate the PC while working on the Mac.

Since there are some operations that cannot be performed via RDP – attaching to a VPN being one of them – it would be nice if I could just leave the PC logged in and operate it via Remote Desktop at the same time.

10 ways to change password in Remote Desktop session – replace.me.Remote Desktop Connection Windows 10 | Password Recovery

I have a peer to peer network which has been running fine for several years. Due to the imminent end of life of Win7, I have started moving over to Win They are both running Win 10 Pro x They can both access the same network shares. Remote connections are enabled as is sharing, both computers have the network connections set to private.

As the laptop can access the tower, I have copied as many of the settings as possible, but still no joy.

It seems to be a mis match in credentials or settings with regard to the user account on the laptop? However, I cannot find this. I have deleted all credentials from Credential Manager and they have been re-created automatically. I know the password is correct as I have checked by logging into my Microsoft account online with it. We understand the concern that after upgrading to Windows 10 you are unable to connect through remote desktop from the Tower to the laptop.

We appreciate your effort to provide us a detail information on the issue and the troubleshooting steps performed. Follow the steps from the article Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10 to create a new user account. This is to understand, whether the issue related to the user account or the network. Also, I would suggest you to post your query in TechNet forum , where we have experts and support professionals who are well equipped with the knowledge on Remote Desktop connection to assist you with the appropriate troubleshooting steps.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. Thanks for your feedback. I’ll put my post in the Technet forums, and update with the information about the local user account later on. Thank you for your response and I apologize for delay in response,. As we came to a conclusion that the issue is related to the user account and not the connection, which is a good progress.

However, by now you might have posted the issue on our TechNet forum. We were researching on our end and we came across one thing, as you have mentioned in your last post that the local user account worked out in establishing a remote desktop connection from the tower. We would like you to perform these steps on the laptop as a temporary trial and check how it works.

Login to the Microsoft user account on the laptop. Select Accounts option. Click on Your Info from the left pane. Select a new username and password for your local account. Now login to the other local account where you were able to establish the remote desktop connection.

Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead. Restart the PC and sign in to the newly converted Microsoft account and check the Remote desktop connection. If the above steps are successful then we just need to transfer the data from one user to the other user. I logged directly into my laptop with my Microsoft credentials, then converted this to a local account as above.

I then converted this back to a Microsoft credentials account, and it prevents me from logging in via remote desktop from the tower to the laptop again. I added my Wife to a Microsoft Family, then added her to my laptop to try and connect through her account to the laptop from her desktop and it would not work.

So I am going to be a bit more structured in trying the suggestions here and try what has been suggested on TechNet also and I will report back in a week or so once I have had time to try around work.

I need to do some systematic fault finding but it’s proving difficult to decide on a structure, and find the time to sit down and make the changes one by one and document the results to try and get an indication of what is going wrong! Just before putting my fix in here. In case you have, I believe your issue could be fixed like mine. Then try from the other computer. Hope it will work. I can connect by remote desktop, from the laptop to the tower OK. I cannot connect from the tower to the laptop. It seems to be a configuration issue on the laptop, but I cannot find it. Can anyone suggest anything to help please?

Thanks in advance. I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. Previous Next. Hi, Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Hi, Thanks for the help. If there are any other suggestions they would be very appreciated. Thanks Paul. In reply to netblindpaul’s post on October 17, Hi Paul, Thank you for your response and I apologize for delay in response, As we came to a conclusion that the issue is related to the user account and not the connection, which is a good progress.

Hello, Thanks for the suggestion. OK, so, I have tried one thing related to this, so far. I could then log in with this local account OK. I could also remote from the tower to the laptop using the local account. I have posted on Technet, but no solution through there yet either.

In reply to netblindpaul’s post on October 22, Just an update, it does seem to be linked to Microsoft Account Credentials. So it seems to be something to do with online Microsoft Account Credentials.

In reply to netblindpaul’s post on October 26, Try to use the actual User Name when login via Remote Desktop It worked for me Thanks for the suggestion, I have already tried that, and just tried it again, no joy. In reply to netblindpaul’s post on November 24, Did you ever find an answer for this? Sorry, no, I have also just replied to you on my other thread. Khurram A. In reply to netblindpaul’s post on December 29, This site in other languages x.
