Verified Purchase. This is undenibly the best one of the best RTS games ever to be created, and one of the best PC games of it’s time.
It has a very classic feel to it, and runs very well with almost no lag issues. The games has a very in depth strategy that makes it a very challenging, yet fun game at the same time. That being said, I still have a few complaints about the game.
Negitives: 1. The game involves way too much economy micromanagement which detracts from planning combat strategy. It’s very hard to consentrate on more than one thing, thus making the game often stressful instead of fun. The graphics are really good for the time it came out, but sometimes looking at the same sword swinging animatoin over and over can be a bit of a yawn. The various troops are the same look throughout all of the empires exept for the special units.
Although the buildings fit the empire you are playing perfecly, the look of the units often don’t fit the civilization you are playing as for example, Aztec warriors wearing chainmail. I would have liked to have seen completely different units for each empire to give it a better feel overall. The games often feel very rushed, and can become very stressfull for less expirienced players. It is often a race to creae the biggest army, which is good, but often detracts from spending time developing effective strategy.
Controlling a giant army can be somewhat of a chore in this game if you are a beginer. You’ll have to separate your different units by pressing shift and a number, so you can assign different tasks to different types of units, and so you can create a strong formation. I highly recoment you do this insted of just sending a huge mish-mash of troops against your opposing army. I guess that’s not really a complaint, but who cares. It needed to be said.
